Southend City Day

Southend is set to celebrate its first-ever City Day on Saturday 1st March 2025, marking the anniversary of Southend being granted city status in 2022. This landmark event will honour the city’s unique heritage, cultural diversity, and the efforts of the late Sir David Amess MP, whose advocacy was instrumental in securing Southend’s city status. We’re inviting performers, community, cultural and faith groups, schools & colleges and local food and drink vendors to run activities and to showcase their talent, creativity, and passion at the event, which will be spread across Southend High Street and seafront.

Southend City Day Artist 2025

The Southend City Artist 2025 is mainly a Plein Air event, Plein Air means to paint outside. So whatever your age or where you are from, you are invited to take part.

The event is one days painting on March 1st followed by a week long show hosted in the Royals Shopping Centre.

Schedule

1st March Painting outside.

1st -8th March Show in Royals Shopping Centre.

All work in the Royals will be available to purchase with a commission of 25% taken. All sales will be handled and payment made to artist within 5 days.

You have to pre-register, registration is just £10.

March 1st, On the day you must visit the Royals to get your canvas/board stamped, bring your own materials and canvas. from 9am.

March 1st, head out and paint an interesting image capturing Southend City. When finished return one piece of artwork to registration making sure its ready to hang.

It must be under A3, WE CANNOT ACCEPT IT IF ITS LARGER size let us know the price and we will add it to a label and hang it for the show.

All art work will be judged at the end of play on the Saturday and a winner announced.

All artwork will be on sale for one week only in the Royals and if unsold will be ready for collection from 12-4pm on the 8th March 2025.

We also have provision for 6 works of 2d hand created art no bigger than A3 that Shout About Southend but are not Landscape paintings, so if you have creative artwork that screams Southend then send it to us and we will choose the best 6 to put in the show. These can be digital renderings as well as painted pieces. This is not open to photography this time or digitally altered photography.

If you are picked you will need to drop the Painting off at the Royals Shopping centre on March 1st from 10am till 3pm. There is a £7 fee to participate that you can bring on the day. Please make sure your work will hang on a single screw and is priced to sell. Your work will be on show until the 8th March 2025.

You need to send a clear image of your work with title and price, including medium created and a telephone number to contact you on. Please send this to andy.downes@hotmail.co.uk, please title your email Southend City Artist 2025. I will only be able to respond to you if you are picked to show on Thursday 27th February 2025.

These will also be part of judging.

Registration Centre is within the Royals Shopping Centre near Boots.

Any artworks not collected will be donated to charity. We have no provisions to keep artwork after the event.
